Gas spring for an upward-opening flap

An upward flap closes a wall or kitchen cabinet and swings up on hinges at the top. Gas springs carry its weight, so it opens easily and stays open while you reach inside.

Enter the flap height, width, thickness and material. The calculator gives standard gas springs, the mounting points on the cabinet and on the flap, and shows over which range the flap stays where you leave it.

Tips
  • A flap that stays put over a wide range is the most comfortable: choose "Stay where I leave it".
  • Friction (torque) hinges help a flap hold its position; you can include them.
  • Mount the springs with the piston rod pointing down: the site says which end is which.
